Currently watching LOST with @BCBodnar

My housemate Bridget and I started watching LOST last week, and I can see why people are addicted to it.  We’re on Disc 6 of season one.

On Wednesday, I went to the Salvation Army and Treasure Mart in search of a briefcase like the one below. I think it’s so classy.

But I couldn’t find one. Darn. I did find a crystal pendant and a pearl necklace at Treasure Mart though, and I only spent $10. Score!

I love Treasure Mart.

I love Treasure Mart.

I am not giving up on the briefcase.

Yesterday, Bridget and I went to Fleetwood Diner.  Neither of us had been there before, and I think it was okay.  Here’s what happened:

Waitress: What kind of toast would you like?

Me: Um…french?

Waitress: White, wheat, or rye?

Yup. That really happened.

Bridget and I also went to Nakamura Co-op for a bit yesterday to celebrate my past roommate’s birthday. I hadn’t seen the birthday girl in ages, and it was really great to sit and catch up.

Early Sunday morning, Bridget and I are going to go to Afternoon Delight for breakfast (I think Bridget and I are going to hit up a good number of Ann Arbor restaurants this summer) and then we’re going to go to a Quaker service after that. There’s a Quaker/Friends House a few houses down from our co-op, and we think it’d be interesting to sit in on a service.

Today, I signed up to be a guinea pig at the Dental School. If I’m eligible for the study, I think I’ll be testing out some new mouthwash. I’ll get paid and a free teeth cleaning. Woot.

The list:

1) Lovely Package. A website similar to The Dieline. Loves it.

I love packaging design. This is what I want to do with my life.

2) Fleuron. Hmm. I can’t remember if I already blogged about this site.  Fleuron is a “journal of typography and design,” and there’s some pretty neat work on here.

@ home for the weekend

Currently listening to my sister watch a YouTube video about sewing.

This is my second time coming home this month.   I usually don’t come home this often.

I got home early yesterday morning and was able to get a good amount of work done before I took a nap at 5:00pm.  I was planning on napping for only an hour, but I didn’t get up until 8:35 this morning!   I slept for 15.5 hours!  I guess  I needed it.  I barely slept for two days last week because I had to study for an exam.

Though I was able to get a lot done yesterday, I still have two chapters to read for Cognitive Psych = 80 pages.  I also need to start on a paper for Communication Studies, and a presentation for another Communication Studies class.  Great fun.

The list:

1) Remember that bag that I wanted from Goorin?  Well, I ordered it online yesterday, and I should be getting it within 2-8 business days.  So excited!  And just in time for Spring.

130-08872) 15+ creative music cd cover designs. Nice collection.

Currently listening to Jack Johnson.

Happy Friday the 13th!  We’ve had two Friday the 13ths in a row this year!

@hruffe started blogging! Definitely check out her blog.  The Poster List that she mentions is pretty cool, and I especially like this poster.

At work today, my office had a Sloppy Joe Fundraiser to benefit the Pewabic Tile Project for the new C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital. We ran out of hamburger buns an hour before the fundraiser was supposed to end.  My boss and I ran over to the Hill Dining Center and I was able to able to buy hamburger buns from the dining hall.  Day saved.

I was planning on going home tonight and spending the weekend there, but my dad won’t be able to come pick me up until early tomorrow morning.  At like 7:00.  Boo.  I was looking forward to going home tonight too, which is unusual, as I don’t really like going home.  Oh well, I now have time to pack.  Last time I went home, I forgot to take my toothbrush with me.

The list:

1) The Dieline (a website devoted to product packaging design) recently redesigned their website!  And I must say that I really like it.  Below is the first thing I saw on the redesigned website.  A good example of product design that combines function and beauty.  And you can use it as a paperweight after you use all the matches, or while you’re in the process of using them!

2) Want to make an electronic magazine?  Issuu can help with that!  I’ve used this website several times, and think every designer needs to know about it.

“Issuu makes your publications look good.  Issuu turns your documents into beautiful online publications. Publish to an audience of millions and get your message across to anyone, anywhere. It only takes a minute and it’s free.”

Currently listening to nothing. My iPod battery died.

This is my 10th rambling. Does that mean something? Probably not.

I didn’t get too far on my American Sign Language story cards. I’m gonna have to go to the district library and borrow a book of fairy tales. I kinda forgot parts of The Princess and the Pea.

I managed to get a good start on my short answer assignment for Cognitive Psych though, so I’ve been semi-productive tonight.

The list:

1) Paper Art by Jen Stark: I wonder if she gets a lot of papercuts. Click here to see an interview with the artist herself. It’s a pretty good interview, so watch it please!

2) Youtube: This video is pretty cool! Just wait to see what comes after the sunset! Make sure your volume is at a good level.

3) Awesome packaging design! What is it though?

Currently listening to Hot Hot Heat.

Today was an uneventful day. We watched a short film on Outsider artist Howard Finster in my American Culture class, and I must say, he’s quite a character. If you don’t recognize his name, maybe you’ll recognize one of his works? He designed the album cover below.

My American Culture professor is taking us on a field trip to Detroit next week to see art installations! I’m so excited. I haven’t been on a field trip since middle school. We’re going to Redford to see Silvio’s Rita Pizzeria & Italian American and to Hamtramck to see Ukrainian Disneyland. My parents live in a city right on the border of Detroit, so maybe we’ll drive through it.

I enjoyed another latte today. I’ve spent $20 on caffeine and yogurt parfaits at Espresso Royale over the past three days. Not good.

The list:

1) The Periodic Table of Typefaces: Pretty amazing.

2) This is what I want to do with my life. Product packaging design. Visit thedieline.com to see more product packaging designs, for articles on packaging design, and to view redesigns.

3) Let’s talk more about redesigns, shall we? Pepsi recently redesigned their logo. Old vs. New: Pepsi with a smile. Click here or here to learn more about the redesign.

I found this on twitter. Hilarious.
